Terms of Service.

These terms apply to your use of the Sift Discord bot and this website ("Sift", "we", "us"). By adding Sift to a server or using it, you agree to them. If you add Sift on behalf of a server, you confirm you have permission to do so.

1. The service

Sift is an automated moderation bot for Discord. It checks messages and names against rules and an AI model, can remove content and take actions your server has configured, and gives your moderators tools to review and act on cases. Features may change as we improve Sift.

2. Automated decisions

Sift makes automated judgements, and some will be wrong: it can miss rule-breaking content, and it can flag content that's fine. Specifically:

• Sift supports your moderators; it doesn't replace them. The server's staff are responsible for their rules, their settings and the actions taken in their server.
• Sift is not an emergency service. If it flags that someone may be at risk, that is a prompt for your team, not a guarantee that every such message will be caught. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
• Members who think Sift acted wrongly should use the server's appeal process or contact its moderators.

3. Your responsibilities

If you install or configure Sift, you agree to:

• follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines;
• tell your members that the server uses automated moderation, for example in your rules channel;
• give Sift only the permissions it needs, and keep your settings appropriate for your community.

4. Acceptable use

You may not use Sift to:

• harass, target or unfairly punish people, or to collect information about them outside normal moderation;
• break the law or Discord's rules;
• overload, reverse-engineer, test for weaknesses in or get around the limits of Sift, including the free plan's monthly limit;
• resell or re-host Sift without our written permission.

5. Plans and payment

• Free: includes a monthly allowance of smart checks per server. When it runs out, smart checks pause until the next month; rule-based protection keeps running.
• Premium and Sift Max: coming soon, not on sale yet. They will be per-server subscriptions purchased through Discord. Discord processes payments, renewals, cancellations and refunds under its own terms. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
• We may change prices or what each plan includes. Price changes won't affect a period you've already paid for, and we'll give notice before they apply to renewals.

6. Availability

We aim to keep Sift running around the clock, but we don't guarantee it will always be available or error-free. Sift depends on Discord and on our AI provider, and outages there can affect it. When smart checks are unavailable, Sift tells your log channel and keeps running its rule-based protection.

7. Ending use

You can stop using Sift at any time by removing it from your server. We may suspend or remove Sift from a server that breaks these terms, or stop offering Sift altogether; if we discontinue a paid plan, we'll give reasonable notice.

8. Our content

Sift's name, logo, code and website belong to us. Your server's content stays yours; you give us permission to process it only as needed to run Sift, as described in our Privacy Policy.

9. Disclaimers and liability

Sift is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for content posted by others, or for actions taken in your server by Sift under your settings or by your moderators. Where our liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for Sift in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits rights you have that can't be waived under the law where you live.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for significant changes, give notice in Sift's support server. Continuing to use Sift after a change means you accept it.

11. Technology partners and attribution

Sift is developed and operated by Jev. The smart-check pipeline that classifies messages and names uses AI moderation infrastructure provided by TypeSafe AI ("TypeSafe") as a service provider and subprocessor. TypeSafe processes message and name text only as instructed by Sift to return moderation scores and categories; it does not use that content to train public models for unrelated purposes under our agreement with them.

Discord, Inc. hosts the platform where Sift runs. Sift is not sponsored or endorsed by Discord. References to Discord trademarks are for identification only. Your use of Discord remains governed by Discord's own terms and policies.

We may change subprocessors with reasonable notice where required by law or contract. A current summary of categories of subprocessors appears in our Privacy Policy.

12. Server content and moderation records

Messages, names, and other content in your Discord server belong to you and your members. By using Sift, you instruct us to process that content to provide moderation features and to store moderation records (cases, strikes, appeals, settings) as described in the Privacy Policy.

Server owners and authorized moderators control Sift's settings, can export or delete case history where the product allows, and are responsible for how they use exported data. We are not responsible for moderators copying case exports outside Discord or retaining them longer than your own policies require.

13. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Jev, TypeSafe (solely to the extent TypeSafe is named because of your misuse of Sift rather than TypeSafe's provision of services to us), and our respective affiliates, officers, and agents from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:

• your breach of these terms or of Discord's terms;
• your server's rules, moderation actions, or treatment of members;
• content you or your members post, except to the extent a claim arises solely from our intentional misconduct or gross negligence in operating Sift.

14. Copyright and DMCA

We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content processed by Sift infringes your copyright, contact us with a description of the work, the material, and your contact information. We may forward appropriate notices to the relevant server's administrators where we are able to do so. Repeat infringers may lose access to Sift where we are legally permitted to act.

15. Export and sanctions

You may not use Sift where prohibited by export-control or sanctions law, or if you are on a government denied-party list. You represent that you are not located in, and will not use Sift from, a jurisdiction where the service would be prohibited.

16. Dispute resolution

Before filing a formal claim, contact us and allow a reasonable time to resolve the issue informally. If we cannot resolve a dispute, and except where your local law gives you mandatory rights to bring claims in your home courts, you agree that disputes will be resolved in the courts of the jurisdiction where Jev operates, unless otherwise required by applicable consumer protection law.

If you are a consumer in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, nothing in these terms removes mandatory protections you have under local law, including the right to use local dispute bodies where applicable.

17. Miscellaneous

• Severability: if one provision is invalid, the rest remain in effect.
• No waiver: failing to enforce a provision once does not waive it later.
• Assignment: you may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, sale, or reorganization with notice where required.
• Entire agreement: these terms and the Privacy Policy are the full agreement about Sift, aside from any separate written agreement we sign with you.
